Great Lameshur Bay Beach

South Shore, St. John

Great Lameshur Bay is on the southern shore of St. John within the Virgin Islands National Park. This beach is the larger one compared to it's next door neighbor, Little Lameshur Bay, but instead of sand the beach here is all small cobblestones. The size of the bay makes for some really good lap swimming as the distance from one side to another is nearly a quarter mile. At the western end of the beach there is a dock that the park service uses. A large number of people will anchor their boats in this bay.

To get to Great Lameshur Bay you head south from Coral Bay towards Salt Pond. Passing the Salt Pond parking lot you continue to a large downhill, at the bottom of which you'll find Great Lameshur Bay. The road down by the beach often times has huge puddles of water so be wary if visiting after a heavy rain. If you continue on past Great Lameshur you'll find Little Lameshur where this is more parking. At the very end of the road is the Lameshur Bay Trail which heads into the jungle and eventually meets up with the Reef Bay trail. Along the way you'll climb some huge elevation, see cool sights, and even find the hidden Europa Bay beach. Happy exploring.
