Reef Bay Beach

South Shore, St. John

Reef Bay is a nice sandy beach with a rich history, located on the southern shore of St. John within the Virgin Islands National Park. To get to the beach you have several options: you can take a boat, you can hike from the Reef Bay Trail trailhead starting off of Centerline Rd, or you can hike Lameshur Bay trailhead starting from Little Lameshur Bay. I'd definitely recommend taking the hike if possible as it takes you past some incredible trees, ruins of an old sugar mill, and the world famous petroglyphs.

The beach of Reef Bay is nice sand with shallow water just off the shore and a reef break that makes the water really calm. This makes it a nice spot to just hang out and enjoy the sun and water. Just beyond the treeline behind the beach is where you'll find the Sugar Mill ruins. These are in pristine condition and have some very interesting informational signs provided by the park service. I definitely checking this out. Just to the west of the beach you'll find another trail that goes through the woods to Little Reef Bay, which is on the other side of the flattened cone shaped Genti Bay.
