Sprat Bay Beach

Water Island

Sprat Bay is a hard to reach beach on the southern side of Water Island. The beach is behind a private community gate so the only way to reach it is by water. However if you really want to explore this neat little beach then you do have some options. The first option is to walk down the Limestone beach where you can climb the rocks or swim around the shoreline to get to Sprat Bay. It's a bit of a grind, but doable. The other option is to kayak from somewhere else like the Frenchtown Marina on St. Thomas. You can kayak through the East Gregerie Channel between Hassal and Water Islands where you'll eventually round the eastern point of Water Island and then find yourself at Sprat Bay. Just remember that Virgin Island law allows the public access to all beaches, but make sure you don't go too far inland or you'll end up on private property.

Sprat Bay has wonderful sand and generally has calmer waters. However, one some days the surf picks up and the funnel like shape of the bay creates great conditions for surfing! It's waves aren't as big as the ones you'd find at other beaches like Hull Bay, but surf is surf right?
