Sandy Point Beach
West End, St. Croix
Sandy Point is the largest beach on St. Croix and is located the the furthest western point of the island just outside of Frederiksted. The land here serves as a wildlife refuge and a nesting area for the endangered leatherback turtles. To ensure that the turtles aren't disturbed the beach is closed from roughly mid-April to August annually. When entering the refuge you'll drive down a long, dirt road towards the end where there are several parking lots for different areas you can park. The beach is one long, uninterrupted beach so it doesn't really matter where you park if you're looking to go for a long walk. If you continue to walk towards Frederiksted you'll eventually find yourself at Dorsch beach! The sand at Sandy Point is wonderfully soft and has a whiter color than other beaches on St. Croix. This makes the water look extra light blue.
