Salomon Bay Beach
The first beach on the North Shore and the first beach in the USVI National Park, Salomon Beach is a wonderful first stop in any St. John beach adventure. The beach has great views across the sound towards St. Thomas and you can also see some of the smaller cays including Lovango, Grass, and Mingo! Along with the views there crystal clear, turquoise water. There is some fun snorkeling at Salomon beach if you go around the eastern side towards Honeymoon. Some interesting history about Salomon Beach - it used to be a well known (and frequented) nude beach. Imagine that... a nude beach that close to downtown just hidden down a trail. Times sure used to be different.
Unless you have a boat the only way to get to Salomon Beach is to take the Lind Point Trail hiking trail from Cruz Bay about 1 mile. You'll find the trailhead behind the USVI National Park building just past the passenger ferry docks. You'll walk along the trail passing an overlook over Cruz Bay and eventually come out at Salomon Bay. You can even extend your adventure down the trail and eventually get to Honeymoon Beach.
