Salt River Beach

Northside, St. Croix

Salt River is located on the north side of St. Croix at about the mid point of the island. The beach here is rocky and the water isn't the nicest for swimming, but these aren't what makes this beach interesting. What's interesting is it right next to Columbus' Landing, the only known site where members of an expedition led by Christopher Columbus set foot on what is now United States territory. On his second voyage across the Atlantic in 1493, Columbus sent men ashore at this point where you can now learn about this historical event.

Salt River beach provides a parking area where you can explore Columbus Landing from as well as the rest of the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, which is managed by the National Park Service. This is a great spot to bring a kayak and to explore the river and the nature and history that it has to offer.
