Mermaid's Chair Beach

West End, St. Thomas

With water coming from the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Caribbean Sea on the west this narrow strip of sand is the perfect spot for a mermaid to relax. It's Mermaid's Chair! Located in The Preserve at Botany Bay, Mermaid's Chair is a spectacular strip of sand with water on both sides that you can walk down. On the east side you can swim in the waves that come in from the Atlantic Ocean. On the west side it is calmer and there is great snorkling along the rocks. There is even a great rock for jumping off of into the water.

Being located in The Preserve at Botany Bay, in order to get to Mermaid's Chair you need to check in the gaurd at the front gate. They'll require an ID as well as take a picture and once you do that you're good to go. The walk down to Mermaid's Chair is about a mile from the entrance and all down hill, about 700 feet in elevation change. This makes the way down not too bad, but the way up can be quite a grind. There is a shuttle that sometimes runs from the nearby Sandy Bay beach, which is a shorter walk from Mermaid's Chair and is also in The Preserve. Make sure to check with the guard about the shuttle schedule and bring lots of water!
