Charlotte Amalie Overlook

Up on the mountain ridge line above Charlotte Amalia runs the scenic Valdemar a Hill Senior Dr, also known as Skyline Drive. On the south side of this road there is a parking lot with spectacular views of the downtown area and the rest of the harbor. You can see the cruise ships docked in port, Frenchtown, Water Island, and Hassel Island. On really clear days you can see St. Croix all the way on the southern horizon rising out the sea. On really really clear days you can see Vieques off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Safari tours will often times stop at this overlook on the way back from activities giving you time to stop and admire the view. Merchants will usually be setup selling different island goods so you can shop while you enjoy the sights! My favorite time for the overlook is sunset, where in the winter months you can see the sun dipping below the horizon over the water.
