Garrison Beach

Southside, St. Thomas

Garrison Beach is on the eastern side of Hassel Island and is the site of the Bristish built Garrison House, constructed in 1807-1815 during the second British occupation of St. Thomas. This building was built to store weapons and military equpipment among other things. If you're interested in learning more about the history check out Hassel Island website.

On the beach there is a dock where if you are visiting by boat you can tie up while checking out the beach. If you're kayaking then it is a short paddle from Frenchtown Marina. Make sure to check here before visiting for current rules. The beach has great views of downtown Charlotte Amalie and especially awesome views of the cruise ship dock in Yacht Haven Grand. If you have the chance to visit this beach while there are cruise ships in it is definitely worth it. On the beach you're so close to the ships that you can truely appreciate their size and the difficulty it takes to guide them to their moorings along the dock!
